Fucked Up

Wednesday, May 11th, 2011

I realized the other day that I’m probably going to be caught in the spam filters with this one. I have never in my life had so many subject lines that include the words Fucked Up – and this without any intention of anger!

In fact, working on the new Fucked Up record is the furthest thing from anger one could be. It’s a surprising new album. It’s a POP album built by a group often identified under the punk and hardcore label. I’d go as far to say that this record is going to be a massive gamechanger for the band.

The guitars were the first thing that was laid down in the studio and then the songs were built around them. So, it’s very fair to call it a guitar driven album. And you can’t ignore the sheer energy coming off those drums in each track. The addition of female vocalists adds an almost soft edge counterbalance to Damian Abraham’s sprawling growly vocals. I can’t even quantify all the elements that fuse together to make the record – all 78 minutes of it – so aurally exciting to listen to, but I’m going to have to try. You see, David Comes To Life is scheduled to be released in Canada in mere weeks on Matador/Beggars Group!

Here’s the track Queen of Hearts from the upcoming album by Fucked Up. Listen for yourselves. You can also join their buy early, get now campaign and get exclusive swag and limited edition 7″ vinyl as well.
