Adam Waito nods to Thunder Bay and Montreal in his second release, out October 4 on Kelp Records

Wednesday, September 28th, 2011

Last weekend, Adam & the Amethysts played two shows at Pop Montreal. Adam is a fixture in the local music scene and this past weekend was a celebration of his imminent release.

It’s a basement recording, but one made with care and vision. Well-respected local Montreal blogger Sean Michaels of Said the Gramophone lavishes praise saying jauntily that “MONTREAL WILL ELECT HIM MAYOR!”

He continues, explaining that “Adam & the Amethysts’ work is set apart, not just by geography – the Canadiana in these songs, the vast woods and great lakes, – but by its sound, weird and kind. The Amethysts’ music is splendid, fertile, new.”

The Canadiana in the descriptor is tribute to his upbringing in Thunder Bay, Ontario and his shift to his new home of Montreal, Quebec.

Local weekly Hour Community chose him as their cover story declaring “It is possibly the best folk rock album of 2011.”

Adam & The Amethysts tours this fall. Make sure you catch them!
