The Great Detachment
March 4, 2016 (Dine Alone Records)

Wintersleep have signed a worldwide record deal with Dine Alone Records. The Halifax-bred, Montreal-based band will release a new album on March 4, 2016 called The Great Detachment.

Joel Carriere, President of Dine Alone Records, described the new songs, “These songs are fucking bangers, big, sweet bangers, and we couldn’t be more excited to be a part of it.”

The Great Detachment was, in majority, recorded live-off-the-floor, adding an organic and transparent aural aesthetic to the collection. “It’s a very different energy,” singer Paul Murphy opines, “and one that we kind of missed.”

Tune into q on CBC Radio One on Friday, January 15 at 10 a.m. to hear Wintersleep chat with Friday Live host Gill Deacon and perform three songs live from The Great Detachment.

*Available for in person media in Toronto the week of Jan 12-15

Chambers released March 24, 2015 via Gentle Threat

“Astonishingly beautiful” – Globe and Mail

Chilly Gonzales announced that his February 2016 Canadian homecoming shows will be his last before taking a year-long sabbatical to focus on new musical and conceptual ideas.

Known equally for his intimate piano touch as for his showmanship, “Gonzo” aims to be a man of his time, approaching the piano with classical and jazz training but with the attitude of a rapper. His latest release, Chambers, is a collaboration with Hamburg-based Kaiser Quartett. The critics weighed in and called it a “must-listen album” adding that “the arrangements here are stunning, the compositions even more so.”

Things That Can’t Be Undone
Released October 9, 2015 via New West Records

An ambitious, stylistically diverse and frequently surprising collection, Things That Can’t Be Undone, finds Lund pushing his wry observations, darkly biting tales, rural balladry and keen storytelling into musically and thematically new terrain, resulting in what many have called the best album of his accomplished career. Recorded with his long time band The Hurtin’ Albertans (Grant Siemens on electric guitar and lap steel, Kurt Ciesla on bass and Brady Valgardson on drums), the album is a self-assured and mature set of songs that pairs Lund’s characteristically sharp songcraft and mix of earnest Americana, rollicking honky tonk and rousing alt-country with ’60s rock, soul, and some Eastern psychedelia.

“Melodically engaging and narratively compelling, Things That Can’t Be Undone furthers the case for Corb Lund as one of the best contemporary country songwriters.” 8/10 – PopMatters

If I’ve Only One Time Askin’
Released July 31, 2015 via New West Records

Not quite country, Americana, folk, songwriter or pop, Daniel Romano’s exquisite and expansive new album, If I’ve Only One Time Askin’, was released on July 31 via New West Records, is pieces of each.

Self-produced and largely self-performed in his hometown Welland, Ontario, near Niagara, the album features Romano’s baritone croon and poetic hard luck storytelling set atop an expanded palette filled with sweeping strings, blasts of horn, stately piano, twangy pedal steel, an 808 drum machine and swaths of accordion.

“Alt-country maverick Daniel Romano’s fourth full-length is an Americana masterpiece.” – Exclaim!

Released October 2, 2015 via Boompa Records

Dralms is Christopher Smith’s latest project, which, over the past year, released two celebrated EPs; Crushed Pleats and Pillars & Pyre. Those exquisitely rendered and emotionally bold EP’s were perhaps gentle threats of future Dralms offerings.

The sound of Dralms has a gravitational pull much like Vancouver, Canada, where singer Christopher Smith resides. When trying to describe musical similarities, reviewers have looked in the directions of Talk Talk, Radiohead, The Antlers, Pink Floyd and Spiritualized, but those references only hint at Dralms’ indeterminable qualities. Clash described Dralms’ music as “a contagious, thrilling fare with a unique melodic sense.”

“Mind-altering, and resistance-melting, the 11-song Shook is a mellow, seductive, sonic treat that’s as individual and undefinable as the band’s unique name.” – Quick Before It Melts

“Shook unfurls slowly and gains more depth with every listen, which is a testament to Smith’s strength as a songwriter.” – The Vancouver Sun

Americana Submarine
Released October 2, 2015 via Simone Records

The idea for a solo project came to Vivanne Roy (of Montreal’s Les Hay Babies) during the last three years on the road with Les Hay Babies. The Acadian singer and guitarist was somewhat rootless due to their intense tour schedule and continuously traveling from city to city with no stable point of reference. This, of course, gave rise to a new creative process that gained momentum as the days went on. She released her first solo EP under the moniker Laura Sauvage this fall on Simone Records.

Chronicles of the Wasteland
Released December 4, 2015 via Fantôme Records

Montreal electronic duo Le Matos (pronounced le matt-ohse) started their careers doing remixes for Coeur de Pirate, Delphic, We Have Band and Electric Youth. Now, they are a powerful dance force creating original music inspired by 80’s movie soundtrack composers such as Vangelis, John Carpenter, Tangerine Dream, Shuki Levy and Goblin.

The new release is a double-album; part one is called Chronicles of The Wasteland – an original album inspired by their own creations for the score of the BMX-powered post-apocalyptic love story film Turbo Kid. Part two of the double-album is the award-winning original Turbo Kid soundtrack itself.

Highways, Heartache and Time Well Wasted
Released November 4, 2014 via Bonsound

“Echoes of Led Zeppelin III’s blend of English folk music and Southern blues as well as a DIY garage-rock aesthetic…” – Exclaim!

In 2013, Lisa LeBlanc hit the road and followed the path of the Beat Generation across Nashville, Memphis, New Orleans, Las Vegas, Austin and San Francisco. It was during this trip that she found the inspiration for Highways, Heartaches and Time Well Wasted. The result is an Americana sound infused with the spirit of the Maritimes.
